What about Scrubs – the television Show?

Scrubs is a very popular comedy tv show that is still up and running for its ninth season. Created by bill Lawrence, it first aired in 2001 and was a hit ever since then. The show plot describes a line of characters as they are employed in Sacred Heart teaching hospital. The comedy behind the show follows a dialogue that is fast paced and is slapstick. The comedy is presented mostly through the daydreams of the characters.

So where dos the title come in? Well obviously the title is a play on the scrubs that are actually used by hospital workers. Also, the term scrub is a slang word for someone who is a novice and is inexperienced.

The main character and narrator of the show is JD, or zach Braff. He offers a unique point of view. The camera perspective is also unique as it is in the format of a single camera rather than multiple camera view. The storylines follow JD and his fellow workers and friends as they try to survive their lives, professionally and personally. The show is unique also in that while actors are given a full script, they are also given many opportunists to improvise and put their own spin on it. At the end of many of the episodes, the main character will summarize the episodes main theme with a series of shots showing how each of the characters were affected by the events.

The main character Zach is a young physician beginning the series as a staff intern. He has a close relationship and a sometimes romantic relationship with a fellow intern Elliot Reid. She has a driven desire to prove to her family that she has it in her to make it as a doctor. In her family, all of the males are doctors. Zach’s best friend is Dr. Christopher Turk who is a new surgical doctor. Both Zach and Chris roomed together at their medical college and they have a very close friendship. Christopher ends up marrying the head nurse in the hospital, Carla. She is often over -compulsive and tries to tell everyone how to live their lives. The senior members of the hospital are Dr. Percival Ulysess “Perry” Cox and Dr. Bob Kelso. Zach considers Cox to be his mentor, but Cox often makes fun of him and belittles his abilities. Kelso on the other hand is a downright cruel and heartless individual, who sometimes comes around to having a softer side.
